5 Reasons Why I Love Broadway Shows

Nothing can compare to a Broadway show. The lights, the costumes, the music, the complete uniqueness of each experience make it something truly one of a kind. Some may see my love of Broadway as an expensive habit, but part of what I love about it all is scoping out the great deals. It's easier to purchase Broadway tickets than most people think and cheap tickets for Broadway abound. In fact, the hunt for a great seat is the first in my list of five reasons I love Broadway shows.

1. Options, options, options. There's always something to see on Broadway. Want to splurge? A box office can definitely help you do that. Don't know what you want? Folks handing out flayers along the street are there to assist you. Want to see something on a whim? Sometimes the best seats aren't released until RIGHT before the show starts. From musicals to plays, comedies to drama, student rush and standing room to Orchestra and Premium seats, Broadway's got as many options as it does lights.

2. It's LIVE! Nothing compares to seeing a live show. Even if you see the same show five times, it's never the same, because it's a combination of hundreds of people working together right before your eyes. You're witnessing something that only the other members of that audience are witnessing. It's once in a lifetime every time.

3. The theaters Walking into a Broadway theater, you really feel like you're some place special. Most of them have been around for years and years and retain their old splendor. With velvet ropes, baroque moldings, ceilings murals, their magic makes it easy to sit down and suspend your disbelief.

4. The music. I have to say that I love plays as much as I do musicals, but I can't deny that when I think of Broadway, I think of the orchestra's first note. You can listen to a show's Cast Recording every day in your bedroom, but it's all brand new when that first note of live music plays.

5. Its timelessness. Ask someone what the first Broadway show they saw was and they'll know. Chances are, you'll see their face light up as they answer. You can't help but think about taking your children or grandchildren to their first Broadway show some day. You're a part of history when you're there.
